Today we are excited to announce that Erik Wilgenhof Plante will be joining BitX as Chief Compliance Officer. Erik will be based in our Singapore office and will lead our internal compliance strategy and external regulatory relationships across the markets we operate in.

erik-wilgenhof-planteErik is one of the most experienced regulatory and compliance experts in the cryptocurrency industry. He was instrumental in building the compliance function of itBit across the US and Asia over the past two years. Before that he  served as a Senior Compliance Manager at PayPal where he oversaw regulatory and operational compliance for Southeast Asia. A seasoned expert in risk and compliance, he has held senior roles in the banking sector, including DZ Privatbank, Commerzbank and ABN AMRO. He has also conducted numerous workshops and presentations on compliance topics for companies and regulators worldwide.

At BitX we see regulation and compliance as a core part of our overall strategy, so much so that we have enshrined them in our founding values. We believe that it is in the best interest of our customers and the industry that cryptocurrency is regulated in a responsible yet pragmatic manner. Over the past few years we have been at the forefront, building a best-in-class compliance framework, and  working closely with governments, regulators and financial institutions. We are also very focused on integrating these best practises to enhance the overall BitX customer experience. For example; we were the first cryptocurrency company in the world that integrated Know Your Client  procedures into a mobile platform.

Erik’s expertise will enable us to accelerate our compliance and regulatory efforts both internally and externally, to the benefit of not only BitX but the industry overall. We are excited to welcome Erik onboard.
